Singer Marco Joseph from the Zabron Singers group is dead.
Mr Joseph who was in his 40s, passed away on 21 August 2024 due to a heart condition while he was receiving treatment at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) at Muhimbili National Hospital.
In a phone interview with Nairobi NewsMarco’s sister, Victoria Zabron, said her brother started feeling unwell one week ago, just before a performance in Kisumu.
“He was forced to stay behind to get treatment. The doctors said his heart was in bad shape and that he needed emergency surgery. He was undergoing heart treatment at Muhimbili Hospital last night, but sadly he didn’t make it. The funeral will be held at Mikocheni at his aunt’s house. “At the moment, the body is still at the mortuary,” Victoria said.
Japeh Zabron, the Chairman of the Zabron Singers Choir, told us that his brother had a heart attack while they were on a mission trip to Kenya a few days ago.
They tried to treat him at Bugando Referral Hospital, but he was transferred to JKCI for further treatment before he passed away while he was under medical care.
He was known for many songs with the group, including “Mkono wake Bwana,” “Swetie Sweetie,” “Sisi Ndio Wale,” “Uko Single,” “Nakutuma Wimbo,” and many others.
Their younger brother, Japhet Zabron, also gave a eulogy for the singer.
“I’ve just posted some lyrics here. I’m really sad, but I know that God is in control.” Oh no! This is terrible. Oh God, no.”
Zabron first made a name for themselves with their hit song ‘Mkono Wa Bwana’.
Since then, they’ve wowed fans with lots of other songs.
The group also includes Victoria Zabron, Jamila Dotto, Samuel Joseph, Semroza Godfrey, Grace Madata, and Joyce Zabron.
In a previous conversation, Japhet, who was involved in the group at the time, shared some insights into its early days:
“When we were in high school, we went to a studio and recorded a song. We didn’t have money and had to borrow from people to pay for studio time. The recording was so bad that we were even ashamed of releasing the song. We almost gave up.”
