New Delhi: The Home Ministry of the Government of India has decided to reserve 10 percent posts in the Central Paramilitary Forces for former Agniveers. CISF is going to implement it soon. The Union Home Ministry has amended the Central Industrial Security Force Security Wing rules. In this, 10 percent reservation in the force has been announced for former Agniveers. Let us tell you that the Home Ministry has also notified relaxation of up to five years in the maximum age limit for the first batch.

In a notification issued by the Home Ministry on Thursday, it was said that, ‘There will be a relaxation of up to five years in the upper age limit for the candidates of the first batch of former Agniveers and 10 percent of the vacancies will be reserved for former Agniveers. Along with this, they will also be exempted from the physical efficiency test.’
It is worth mentioning that about 1,70,000 personnel are serving in CISF under the Home Ministry. It mainly provides security to 66 sensitive and major airports, 14 ports, nuclear and space institutions, Delhi Metro, Statue of Unity in Gujarat and other industrial units. Apart from this, the force is also engaged in providing security to 11 private establishments.

When did the scheme start?

The government launched the Agneepath scheme in June 2022. It provided for recruiting youth in the age group of 17 to 21 years in the army for four years, out of which 25 per cent are to be retained for 15 more years. The government later increased the upper age limit to 23 years. Many opposition parties, including the Congress, have been targeting the government over the scheme and are raising questions about what will happen to 75 per cent of the Agniveers after the four-year term ends, as only 25 per cent of the total recruits will remain for 15 years. Various central government agencies and departments have already announced plans to recruit former Agniveers.
