TAMPA, Fla. — Italian rocket maker Avio plans to set up its first solid motor production facility in the United States in 2028 to capture growing demand in the space and defense markets.

The company’s recently established U.S.-based subsidiary said Oct. 29 that it has contracted real estate development firm ACMI Properties to pick a location for the factory in the first half of 2025.

While the facility’s core focus would be on missiles for U.S. government tactical needs, following a contract with defense contractor Raytheon and a partnership with the U.S. Army, Avio USA CEO James Syring said there is also strong demand for boosters from commercial space launchers.

“The demand signal was very, very strong on the defense tactical side,” said Syring, a retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral and former director of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, “but as we got into those very detailed discussions, the space side has come up more recently.”

He said Avio seeks to provide additional capacity to the industrial base for large solid rocket motor boosters in the United States, where Northrop Grumman is the primary supplier.

“Obviously, [Northrop] are a huge company,” he said, “but given the expertise and the manufacturing capability that we have in Europe for these types of big boosters, we believe … there’s a niche for us over here in terms of that capacity.”

Avio develops solid, liquid and cryogenic propulsion systems and is prime contractor for Europe’s Vega rocket program. The company is also a sub-contractor for Ariane 6, which uses Vega boosters.

In addition to a solid rocket motor production facility at its base in Italy, Avio has a facility in French Guiana, which hosted Ariane 6’s inaugural launch in July.

Avio USA is based in Arlington, Virginia, and is structured to comply with the country’s security and export-control regulations, including being governed by a U.S.-led board of directors.

ACMI, or American Center for Manufacturing Innovation, said it is considering all 50 states in the U.S. for Avio’s first manufacturing facility in the country. The contract also marks the developer’s first rocket factory project.

Sui Developer Appeal Challenges Solana’s Dominance

Technology tamfitronics

The developer-driven growth of SUI and innovation have positioned it as a top Solana competitor, often called the “Solana Killer.”

While Sui’s technology impresses developers, Solana’s established community and stable user base keep it ahead.

Despite Sui’s strengths and growing adoption, some experts remain skeptical about its potential to overtake Solana. They have weighed both platforms, highlighting their strengths and challenges.

Sui Rise: A Potential Solana Challenger

Despite being a relatively new blockchain, Sui has gained significant traction, particularly for its impressive technical features.

Some experts believe it could outshine Solana in the long run. For instance, Tim Kravchunovsky, CEO of Chirp, chose Sui over Solana for his project. He highlighted Solana’s frequent outages as a key factor in his decision.

In an interviewKravchunovsky stated, “Solana seemed to be struggling to handle its increase in popularity. It was a red flag.”

Kravchunovsky believes that Sui offers a more scalable and reliable solution.

“We see Sui as a sort of Solana 2.0. I won’t hesitate to recommend Sui as the top choice for a robust network,” he added.

However, Sui is still relatively young and has not yet experienced the same level of popularity as Solana.

Despite Sui’s growing popularity among developers, Solana’s user experience remains strong. Solana has a larger, more stable user base, and its products are more developed.

A recent report from 21Shares pointed out that “Sui’s traction is largely driven by spikes in activity,” while Solana has shown steady growth. As a result, Solana maintains a stronger presence in the market.

Experts Weigh in on Sui Potential

Some analysts, like Raoul Pal, are bullish on Sui’s potential. Pal noted that Sui had shown relative strength in a stagnant marketa sign “worth paying attention to.”

He explained that Sui’s upward trend is impressive, even in challenging market conditions.

“$SUI is acting like it is going to be one of the key Chosen Ones of the major new chains, if not THE Chosen One,” says Paul.

Yet others remain cautious. Guy Turner from the Coin Bureau podcast shared that while Sui “meets the criteria of a crypto that retail could ape into,” demand is not moving in the right direction, which could impact Sui’s long-term success.

Moreover, a glance at Reddit reveals that many community members are doubtful.

Solana Still Dominates in User Experience

While Sui’s technology may attract developers, Solana’s mature ecosystem provides a better user experience.

According to developer Kylebuildsstuff, Solana’s user experience currently is better, and the ecosystem is much more mature. In a July interviewhe explained that while Sui may raise standards for developers, the user experience ultimately matters.

“Users don’t care about the underlying tech. They care about things that make their lives better,” Kylebuildsstuff noted.

With both platforms offering unique advantages, the blockchain space is far from settled. Whether Sui will become a “Solana Killer” remains to be seen, but the race is on.

$SUI: Firedancer equivalent launching

Today, I’m going to share a very overlooked play that could be rewarding in either spot or perps. After we nuked, markets have been craving a narrative or ‘’fundamental’’ play. Memecoins are (rightfully) the place to be right now. Despite me… pic.twitter.com/x0kbYUwURC

SOL hovers around $129, while SUI trades at $1.1. With a market value of $60.54 billion, SOL remains the 5th largest cryptocurrency. On the other hand, SUI is the 26th biggest crypto asset, with a total market cap of $3.1 billion.

Last month, Xbox shared the news it would be shutting down four studios including the developers behind the critically-acclaimed title Hi-Fi RUSH. While things have been looking more positive on the Xbox front over the past week, a now-former Tango Gameworks employee has shared an update on this closure, seemingly confirming the studio has completely shut down.

As highlighted by our friends at VGCdeveloper Takeo Kido shared multiple pictures of the Japanese studio – noting how it was the “last day of work” with the studio then closing. In these pictures you can see the lobby featuring some Fallout icons as well as some Hi-Fi RUSH-related works, and another picture shows the studio’s “last meal”, with tables covered in pizzas and the staff gathering around them.

When Microsoft first shared the news Tango Gameworks was one of the studios it would be shutting down, there was admittedly some backlash from fans around the globe, with many labelling it heartbreaking news after the studio won a Game Award, BAFTA, and many other awards. Some employees even pointed out this success following the announcement and it led to the game being “reverse-review bombed” on Steam.

Xbox has cited on multiple occasions how the decision behind these recent shutdowns was tied to the ‘long term’ health of Xboxwith Phil Spencer most recently stating it’s about running a “sustainable business” while admitting “the closure of any team is hard”.

As for the future, Tango is sadly no more and there have unfortunately been some reports Xbox could be considering more cuts as part of a “widespread cost-cutting initiative that still isn’t finished”. This information comes from Bloomberg, but we’re yet to see anything come of this report. Tango’s closure was announced alongside the Redfall studio Arkane Austin, as well as Alpha Dog Games (Mighty Doom) and Roundhouse Studios.

Since the showcase, Xbox appears to have bounced back – thanks to updates on the likes of Fable and Perfect Darkwhile also unveiling new projects such as a new Gears game and the reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

How are you feeling about Tango Gameworks closing its doors? Do you think this is a good business move? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
