Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been warned against embarking on night travels.
The warning was issued to corps members by the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, on Friday, August 30.
According to Ahmed, no corps member is authorised to make night travels and anyone found embarking on such act will be sanctioned in line with the NYSC bye-laws.
Speaking while addressing corps members of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two and Camp Officials at the NYSC FCT Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, Ahmed said the corps is engaging with stakeholders to sensitize members on the dangers of night travels.
He said the majority of the kidnap cases of corps members are recorded from night travels.
His words, “The majority of Corps members’ kidnapping cases are due to night travel. Therefore, I want to remind everyone that night journeys are strictly prohibited.”
“While travelling and once it is 6 pm, anywhere you find yourselves, look for a safe place like a military barrack, police station or any Corps Lodge and pass the night to continue your journey the following day,” Ahmed said.
He further advised the corps members to remain disciplined throughout the service year and be security conscious about their environments while ensuring they adhere strictly to NYSC bylaws.
