The Kano State Government has said it is determined to dethrone Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano.

According to Sunusi Bature, spokesman for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, it is a “fight to finish.”

He made the disclosure during an appearance on Arise TV.

He said Bayero holds a respected status and privileges as a Kano indigene, however, his actions have not aligned with his personality.

He said, “Aminu Bayero is an indigene of Kano, well respected, and we don’t want anything to happen to him. He is not under any pressure to leave the state. As a very important personality, he has the right to move anywhere.

“The police have taken sides at the moment and seem not to be taking orders from the Governor.

“Firstly, when Aminu arrived at midnight, at a time when he and his family had vacated the main palace, they took all their belongings from the main palace, but he was convinced by some unpatriotic politicians to return to Kano and give a fight.

“For us, it’s a fight to finish because the Governor has the right to dethrone the Emir, to reappoint the Emir, to appoint a new emir, or reinstate. He has the constitutional right, and nobody can take that away from him. Even if it takes us 100 years, the governor has that exclusive right to depose or appoint a new emir.”

This development comes despite a recent ruling by a Court of Appeal in Kano that reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano and maintained the status quo on the Kano Emirate law that recognized Emir Bayero as the 15th Emir.

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that the judge overturned all the actions taken by Governor Yusuf after the controversial law was amended by the Kano State House of Assembly on May 23.
