Social media toxicity hurting national pride

Social media toxicity hurting national pride

Politics tamfitronics

The attacks on this country’s most important day, Independence, were shameful.

Take time and read the comments of persons who claim to be Trinbagonian as they denigrated every page that attempted to celebrate our 62 years as a nation because of their positions on the politics.

It wasn’t enough to insult our appearance to the world, but positive comments were met with aggression, and obscene and racist insults from persons who no longer felt people had rights to express different opinions—just as they were.

Brazil became the latest country to ban Elon Musk’s X platform, claiming it couldn’t guarantee protection from disinformation and conspiracies.

Jamaica, the US, France and the UK and many governments and universities are also touting the toxicity of social media and the mental health of citizens.

In time, we will all remember “freedoms” of technology and how it was removed because some chose to insult and bully as a daily dose of their radicalised, cowardly politics.
