Months after being roped in to temporarily take over the role of Meikie Maputla from Harriet Manamela in SABC 1’s Shame Together, veteran actor Florence Masebe is readying to bid the community of Turfloop farewell.

Masebe debuted on the show in May, following an announcement in February that Manamela would be replaced until the end of Skeem Saam’s season 12. Manamela was away from the show because she “needed to be placed on sick leave for an extended period of time”.

“It’s almost time to say goodbye to the Turfloop bunch. Thank you for the beautiful ride. See you on the next… Ndi a livhuwa (thank you). Aa!” Masebe wrote on social media as she announced her departure from the weeknight show.

Former sports, arts and culture minister Zizi Kodwa, who resigned after being charged with corruption, maintains his innocence as he returns to Parliament as an MP.

On Tuesday, Kodwa was among several MPs sworn in after missing the first swearing-in session earlier this month.

Speaking to journalists minutes before his swearing-in, he downplayed the case against him.

The funds will be used to import 300 000 tons of heavy fuel oil and other energy needs, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Tuesday in a televised address, without elaborating. More may be needed depending on the severity of the summer heat, he said.

Egypt, a mostly desert country that’s heating up at one of the world’s fastest rates, saw temperatures in Cairo recently surpass 40C on some days. Soaring demand for cooling is piling pressure on the power grid, and authorities — who recently agreed a $57 billion bailout — are being forced into their highest imports of liquefied natural gas since 2018. That marks a turnaround for a country that previously exported LNG to Europe.
