Financial Secretary Paul Chan said on Sunday that public secondary school exam results due this Wednesday should not define the future of candidates.

He said regardless of the results, young people can find and develop their own future.

“Technology and innovation nowadays are rebuilding different industries around the world, as well as our lifestyles,” Chan wrote on his weekly blog.

“So long as young people embrace changes, dare to imagine and keep learning, and are determined to move forward, they can surely break new ground and develop their own future.”

Chan also noted that there are ups and downs in life, and people should persevere through success and failure.

He stressed that the government has been promoting development in innovation and a diverse economy, with the hopes of providing more quality jobs for young people, while enhancing the economy’s development, momentum and resilience.

Civil service minister Ingrid Yeung, for her part, said public exam results are not everything in life.

She said for those who intend to serve the public, they can try to learn more about jobs that the government offers as early as possible.

“You can be a step quicker than others and plan your career, equip yourself for the future,” she wrote on social media.
