Malaysia expressed support for Qatar’s role in peace talks in Palestine

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia expressed support for the important role played by Qatar in efforts to resolve the violence of the Zionist regime of Israel on the Palestinian people.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan through a post on Facebook today said he had expressed Malaysia’s support to Qatar in a meeting with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha on Sunday.

Mohamad is currently in Qatar to accompany Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who began his official visit to Qatar today until May 14.

We discussed the framework to further enhance the existing good bilateral relations between Malaysia and Qatar which have been established since 50 years ago, he said.

According to Mohamad, trade and investment relations between the two countries are at a good level and Qatar has expressed its desire to further increase their investment in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Wisma Putra through a post on Facebook said in the meeting, Mohamad took the opportunity to thank his counterpart for Qatar’s important role in the ceaseless effort to mediate peace talks between Hamas and Israel.

According to Wisma Putra, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar also shared about the situation in the Middle East, especially the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which requires continuous efforts based on the dynamics of relations between major powers and Israel.

Both sides stressed the need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire and emphasized the importance of ongoing negotiations, according to the Facebook post.

According to Wisma Putra, Prime Minister Anwar’s speech during his official visit to Germany was seen as a turning point in the global community’s view of Israel’s aggressive and genocidal actions against Palestine.

Meanwhile, Wisma Putra said in the meeting that took place, both sides briefly touched on the role of Malaysia which will chair the ASEAN – GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Summit during Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.

The main points discussed during this courtesy visit focused on strengthening bilateral relations through the High Level Joint Committee (HLJC) and the Investment Guarantee Agreement (IGA).

The Foreign Minister also extended an invitation to the Prime Minister of Qatar to visit Malaysia, according to Wisma Putra.
