“This production of RENT is about more than the past —it’s a reflection of our present,” said director Chris Rabideau in a news release.
“We are witnessing these themes play out in real-time here in Windsor, and the technology we’re using allows us to enhance that connection with the audience, creating a performance that’s immersive and unforgettable.”
Rabideau, who is also Arts Collective Theatre’s artistic director, said innovative LED screens and movement elements, combined with choreography by internationally renowned artist Bryan Hindle and musical direction by Alde Calongcagong, promises to deliver an experience that both long-time fans of the show and new audiences won’t want to miss.
“I believe it would be a disservice to Jonathan Larson’s vision to stage this show without pushing the boundaries of what theatre can do,” Rabideau said.
“ACT is known for inclusive casting, and with this level of technology, we are telling RENT’s story in a fresh, impactful way.”
Set in the heart of New York’s East Village, RENT tells the story of a group of bohemian artists navigating life, love, and survival amidst the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Themes of resilience, hope and the power of community help the iconic musical to continue to resonate with audiences around the world.
Cast members have have been rehearsing together since May.
Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., through Oct. 12, plus a matinee Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $38, $32 for students and seniors (age 60 and over), at the Capitol Theatre box office.
