Coronation Street actor Luca Toolan has been causing quite the stir on the cobbles as school bully Mason Radcliffe. The 20 year old actor joined the ITV soap in September last year, and quickly made headlines with his character’s dramatic knife-wielding scene involving Liam Connor.
But off-screen, Luca leads a very different life. Away from the Corrie set, Luca loves to give his social media followers a glimpse into his glamorous life, from family vacations to partying in London. Fans were left swooning over his sun-soaked Greek holiday snaps, featuring him on a swanky yacht against the backdrop of the glistening Aegean Sea. Captioning the photos on Instagram, he simply said: “I love chicken gyros.”
His social media also boasts about his escapades in London and a thrilling jaunt to Cannes for some jet-ski action. He also enjoyed a family holiday to Rome, Italy, where the Toolans did some sightseeing, including stopping by the famous Trevi Fountain and the Vatican. The Corrie star also shared a snap with his famous dad, radio DJ Mike Toolan, who co-hosts alongside ex-Emmerdale and Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson on The Hits Radio, at the Spanish Steps. But it’s not just sun-soaked holidays the actor enjoys – he’s also a keen skier, and has shared snaps from the snowy mountains.
Last September, Luca took to Instagram to celebrate his Corrie casting. Posting selfies from the set and expressing his gratitude, he said: “There’s a new kid joining the cobbles Mason Radcliffe. It’s an honour to be a part of a show that I’ve grown up on that has some of the warmest and most talented people. Thank you to everyone that supported me, you know who you are. Thank God always. And my bigger smaller brothers Liam and Charlie.”
He gushed: “It really is amazing. I feel very lucky because I’ve had Liam with me and he’s been like an older brother to me, even though he’s actually younger than me. He’s such a nice dude and he’s really walked me through everything, showed me where the teas are and the cups and what have you, and he’s made it a lot easier. If I was going in on a storyline by myself, I feel like it’d be a lot more daunting, but everybody’s so nice. I didn’t know what to expect, but everybody’s genuinely lovely.”
When Luca bagged the role on Corrie, he immediately rang his dad to share the excitement. A thrilled Mike couldn’t wait to spread the word to his listeners and friends, proudly announcing: “Luca has been unveiled as the new baddie (Mason) on Coronation Street. Absolute dream come true for him. Liam McCheyne and all the amazing Corrie cast and crew have made him feel so at home.”
Luca has openly shared that he wouldn’t gel with his on-screen persona Mason, candidly remarking: “No! He’s a lunatic. I would stay away from people like Mason,” reports the Mirror. Despite this, he finds joy in the role, especially due to his close bond with co-stars Liam and Charlie, adding: “My favourite film is The Joker, so I like looking at characters that are damaged. One thing I really want to do with a character is show the vulnerable side.”
