The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered the arrest of two officers implicated in the assault of a female staff member at Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos.
The incident, which occurred during an early morning sting operation, was captured in a viral video showing the officers manhandling the hotel employee.
The sting operation resulted in the apprehension of several suspects who are currently undergoing profiling.
In response to the viral video and public outcry, Mr Olukoyede has mandated a thorough investigation into the conduct of the operation and the actions of the officers involved.
Olukoyede emphasized that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any officers found culpable.
He reassured the public that the EFCC is committed to carrying out its duties professionally and with strict adherence to the rule of law.
“We assure the general public that the EFCC will continue to conduct its operations with utmost professionalism and respect for the rule of law,” Mr Olukoyede stated.
The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the chairman’s directives in a statement issued on June 27, 2024.
