Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the countrysupplies 24-hour electricity to neighbouring countries Togo, Benin Republic, and Niger.
In an interview with Channels TV’s ‘Sunday Politics’ onSunday, Sule Abdulaziz, chief executive officer of TCN, said some Nigeriansalso get 24-hour power supply.
“We supply Togo, we supply Benin and Niger. Yes, they getpower from Nigeria on a 24-hour basis and they are paying,” he said.
“Nigerians are getting 24-hour supply; it’s not everybody. Those people that are in band A, you will see that they get 20 to 22 hours.”
Abdulaziz said every electricity distribution company(DisCo) has Band A and it is their priority to supply their customers withabout 22 or 24 hours.
However, he said the DisCos are mandated by regulators toprovide “between 18 hours and 22 hours” of electricity.
Abdulaziz also said TCN is not to blame for all nationalgrid collapses in the country.
“It can be fromgeneration, it can be from transmission, and it can be from distribution. Andsome of these also can come as a disaster. So if there is any system collapse,we have to make studies, find out what is the cause of this grid collapse,” hesaid.
On October 13, the Nigerian Electricity RegulatoryCommission (NERC) said international customers owe N9.41 billion forelectricity supply in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024.
