CASIO Unveils fx-9910NG PLUS 2nd Edition Calculator Exclusive for Lagos, Nigerian Curriculum

The CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE, regional subsidiary of CASIO Computer Co. Ltd and the leading education technology company, has announced the launch of an exclusive edition calculator, fx-9910NG PLUS 2nd Edition,.

This model is specifically designed for Nigeria.

Speaking at a news conference to unveil the product on Thursday in Lagos, the Managing Director, Casio Middle East and Africa FZE, Seimiya Takashi, said this innovative calculator combined basic calculation with advanced functionalities, including differential calculation.

According to him, the calculator also processed other functionalities such as, integrations, complex numbers, matrix and vector calculations and many more.

“Following the successful training program for 1,200 teachers on the usage of calculators with Inquiry-Based Learning, we are thrilled to deepen our footprint in Nigeria by introducing the fx-9910NG PLUS 2nd Edition calculator.

“This calculator is a testament to our commitment to delivering the highest level of support and innovation to Nigerian educators and students by equipping them with the tools they need to excel in science, mathematics and engineering in today’s world,” the Managing Director stated.

Mr Takashi noted that in addition to the unveiling, CASIO would continue to support educational activities and enhance educators’ knowledge, using genuine scientific calculators, leading the charge today with a conversation on fostering innovation and problem-solving in the Nigerian classroom through technology.

Also speaking, Mrs. Akinlade Omolayo Olatomirin, Director/Head of Department (HOD) Education Resource Centre, a Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, commended the company for the innovation and efforts in facilitating learning outcome among students.

She expressed optimism that the collaboration between the state government and Casio Middle East Africa FZE would continue to yield greater results and improve on efforts in ensuring that students realise their potentials.

“Our collaboration with CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE has been remarkable and eye-opening.

“Equipping educators with the needed skills in inquiry-based learning using the CASIO calculator has been inspiring and thrilling.

“I want to say that this new model, which is non-programmable, is a long-awaited technology that must be embraced by all educators and examining bodies,” she said.

High point of the occasion was a Mathematical quiz competition that had students from various secondary schools across the state in attendance participate in, using the brand new Casio calculators.

The finalists included Chinenye Oforma from Canterbury International School in 3rd place, Bada AbdulSalam from Oriwu Senior Model College Ikorodu in 2nd place.

Lawal Ismail from Falomo Senior High School clinched the first position.

The quiz winners were awarded cash prizes of N100,000, N250,000 and N500,000 respectively.

The event attracted prominent personalities from the Nigerian education sector, including the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Lagos State, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, represented by the Director of Education Resource Center, Mrs. Omolayo Akinlade Olatomorin.

Others included the Senior General Manager, Casio Japan, Mr Tomoaki Sato; Director, Educational, Planning, Research and Development, Federal Ministry of Education Abuja, Mrs. Obianuju O. Anigbogu and a representative from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
