Eamonn Holmes revealed on GB News Breakfast that he once warned his eldest son, Declan, about the dangers of binge-drinking when he was a teenager and wanted to go on holiday alone.

The conversation emerged as Holmes discussed Location, Location, Location presenter Kirstie Allsopp’s choice to let her 15 year old son go interrailing. Reflecting on a past tragedy, the TV anchor said: “I remember, my eldest lad wanted to go off on holiday.”

Discussing the perils of teenage drinking habits, he continued: “The thing they were all doing at 18 at school was firing shots [of alcohol]. They would all take these shots and [it was all about]’How many shots, can you take?'”

Eamonn expressed his intense concern, emphasising: “Except they could actually kill you!” He then recounted the stern advice he gave to his son, “I took him aside and I said, son this could kill you doing this.”

Eamonn explained he would ban school trips

Now 35, Declan is Eamonn Holmes’ son from his marriage to ex-wife Gabriella. Declan currently resides in Belfast with his wife Jenny and their two children, Emilia and Isabella, reports the Express.

In addition to Declan, Eamonn has three more children Niall and Rebecca with Gabriella, and Jack with his estranged wife Ruth Langsford.

While sharing his thoughts on the topic of youngsters travelling and interrailing, Eamonn admitted his wary nature. Engaging with co-host Ellie Costello, he remarked: “I’m quite a cautious parent. I don’t like school trips, for instance. What is the point?

“I’ve had to send my kids off to do white water rafting and canoeing and blooming rivers around the country. And I think, what is the point? Why do they need to know [that]. It’s not fun capsizing in a canoe with your friends in the great outdoors.

“I get nervous. I think, ‘no, not, not for me’. There’s lots of things. I would ban,” he revealed. “School trips – I just think no!”
