A nostalgic journey: DStv Delicious Festival to honour music icons with family tribute performances

By: Constance Gaanakgomo

South African festival enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the DStv Delicious Festival powered by LottoStar, set to take place this weekend (21 and 22 September) at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

For a nostalgic journey honouring the music legends of the past, this year’s festival is celebrating 30 years of creative freedom with a special tribute show. The names of these musicians have been etched in the memories and homes of South Africans and the world. They created music that has left a mark on the music industry, and their legacies are still alive years after we laid them to rest.

The show, produced in collaboration with Real Concerts, will feature performances on both days by the children of late music icons Hugh Masekela (by his nephew, Selema Writes), Sibongile Khumalo (by her daughter Ayanda Khumalo and her son Tshepo Mngoma), Mandoza (by sons Tokollo and Tumelo Tshabalala), and Johnny Clegg (by son Jesse Clegg).

REVIEW | Greedy People: Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivers in knock-out black comedy

By: Joel Ontong

In the surreal mystery series Twin Peaks, a murder is used to expose the darkness lurking under an idyllic town’s cheery veneer. Between the warmth and community spirit, evil hides in the shadows. In the new film Greedy People, directed by Potsy Ponciroli, a sleepy town is also hit by a murder, but here, the darkness is front and centre.

Greedy People subverts many of our expectations of buddy cop movies and crime comedies. It provides an engrossing 112 minutes and, at times, can be dangerously funny with pitch-black humour. Though this film has the look and feel of a mid-budget production and a basic visual style, it is still a very enjoyable watch. The film has a colourful cast of characters, with a fragmentary plot that ends in an explosive conclusion.

DRIVEN | Chasing daisies in style with a Mercedes-Benz GLE 450d 4Matic

By: Nick Yell

To the casual observer, there are a few differences between the old Mercedes GLE 400d and the latest 450d. The most significant change is under the bonnet, where the same engine gains a substantial boost (remapping has upped overall power by 10.5% and torque by 7%), all while achieving slightly better fuel consumption.

One of the other positive and not easily noticeable differences, especially for an off-road nut like me, is that the ground clearance has increased from 180mm on the 400d to 214mm on the new 450d, a nearly 19% increase that will significantly improve its off-road ability.

‘The most physically demanding thing’: Kathryn Hahn found strength in playing powerless Agatha Harkness

By: Kaunda Selisho

Kathryn Hahn may be best known for her comedic prowess, but in Agatha All Along, the upcoming Disney+ spin-off of WandaVision, she steps into a world where laughter and magic blend seamlessly with darkness.

Her character, Agatha Harkness, who viewers first met as the nosy neighbour Agnes in WandaVision, is about to take centre stage in a show that promises to reveal more than just her quick wit. Hahn’s Agatha was an instant fan favourite, and for good reason. At the end of WandaVision, Agnes was unmasked as a powerful witch who nearly bested Wanda Maximoff.

The big breast burden: Johannesburg women share life-changing journeys with reduction surgery

By: Marilynn Manuel

Breast reductions – technically known as reduction mammoplasty – are pretty commonplace in South Africa, and many women undergo them for physical relief rather than cosmetic improvement.

Women with larger, sagging breasts are often troubled by back pain and even breathing difficulties. While good-fitting bras offer temporary relief, doctors often advise that those in chronic pain take the breast reduction route.

Breast reduction surgery costs between R 55 000 and R 62 000. The surgeon and the length of the procedure determine this price range.

Adored Tupperware faces bankruptcy: SA women discuss what went wrong with the iconic brand

By: Phumi Ramalepe

Tupperware, once a dominant name in kitchenware and a staple in homes worldwide, recently filed for bankruptcy due to financial difficulties. The brand, founded in 1946 by chemist Earl Tupper in Massachusetts, USA, has faced declining sales and increased competition, struggling to appeal to an urban market.

“Over the last several years, the company’s financial position has been severely impacted by the challenging macroeconomic environment. As a result, we explored numerous strategic options and determined this is the best path forward.
