An association representing past and current students of Stellenbosch University’s Wilgenhof residence has welcomed the council’s decision to hold further consultations over the proposed closure of the controversial men’s hostel.
In a communiqu?? to the university community on Tuesday, the council said it had met on Monday to extensively debate Vice-Chancellor Wim de Villiers’ recommendation – which was unanimously supported by the rectorate – that the residence in its current form should be closed on the basis of the recommendation of a panel that investigated the contents of two rooms.
