As the primaries of the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) to pick its flag bearer in the November 18 governorship poll in Anambra holds in Awka today, the party, yesterday, said that there would not be automatic ticket for the sole contestant, Chief Godwin Ezeemo.
National Chairman of PPA, Comrade Peter Ameh said that about 1000 party delegates from across the state would determine the fate of the sole aspirant, explaining that the party has ample time to scout for a candidate should Ezeemo be rejected by party faithful.
Ameh, who spoke from Awka on telephone told Saturday Sun that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party turned down several aspirants, who according to him, wanted to “gate crash into PPA” to contest election.
He said “We don’t believe in imposition of candidates; I must tell you that we have many people approaching us but we turned them down. Our position is that there should be participation in party politics; we must begin to reward loyalty.
“So, we don’t give waiver; we wouldn’t just admit people jostling for parties. But if the people reject the aspirant; we have ample time, up to two months to look for another person.”
While presenting nomination and expression of interest forms to Ezeemo at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on July 13, Ameh had harped on the aspirant’s pedigree, saying that he has been the major pillar of the party for over four years.
“The factor that has given us victories in all these past polls is not because we have too much of the strength to overcome but because we have presented to the electorate candidates that have impeccable characters, that can prevent corruption, that can stand in the face of any intimidation to protect the will of the people at all cost.”
