Dozens of people have been killed during a church service in southern Nigeria when the roof collapsed as worshippers, including the regional governor, were praying.

At least 160 people were killed and dozens of others injured after a church building collapsed during a mass in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, southern Nigeria, Saturday.

The incident happened at Reigners Bible Church International as churchgoers had been attending the consecration of a pastor, local media reports said. The building had reportedly been undergoing restoration work at the time of accident. The exact cause of the collapse is being investigated.
