Arsenal have reportedly received early positive news on the injury of Gabriel Jesus after the striker missed last weekend’s win against Aston Villa.
Jesus watched from the sidelines as goals from Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey handed the Gunners a 2-0 away win to continue their perfect Premier League start.
The Brazillian, though, who came off the bench against Wolves in the season opener, did not feature at Villa Park after picking up a groin injury in training.
‘Just at the end he felt something in his groin,’ Mikel Arteta said post-match when asked about Jesus’ condition.
‘We’ll need to assess him. We need to have an MRI scan to see, but he wasn’t available for the game.
‘We have to see [how long he will be out]. Probably tomorrow or Monday we’ll have the results to see if it’s a matter of days or weeks. We don’t know.’
While Arsenal are still awaiting the full MRI results, early reports suggest that the injury is less serious than initially feared.
Arsenal’s next fixture is at home to Brighton at the Emirates on Saturday.
With Jesus out, Kai Havertz and Eddie Nketiah are the club’s only recognised strikers.
However, Nketiah still faces an uncertain future at the club, with Crystal Palace reportedly interested in a deal after his move to Nottingham Forest collapsed over the weekend.
At full-time on Saturday, Arteta hinted that Arsenal may dip back into the transfer window to sign a striker if the injury to Jesus rules him out for an extended period.
‘It is true we have an injury with Gabriel Jesus as well and we missed him,’ the Spaniard told Sky Sports. ‘So we are a little bit short. If we can do something we will do it but at the moment we love the ones we have, they are really, really good.’
Arsenal have been credited with strong interest in Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli star Victor Osimhen, who is expected to leave Italy this summer.
