Sani Shinkafi, former governorship candidate in Zamfara State, has endorsed the Defence Headquarters’ (DHQ) decision to investigate sponsors of banditry in the North West.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, Shinkafi described the investigation as “long overdue” and crucial for restoring peace and stability in the region.
Shinkafi expressed concerns over the increasing violence, kidnappings, and displacement of communities.
“The situation calls for a decisive military action,” he said, urging the DHQ to ensure that anyone found complicit, regardless of their status, faces justice.
He also criticised some politicians, accusing them of exploiting banditry for political gain. “Unscrupulous politicians are using banditry as a tool against their opponents.
The DHQ must extend the probe to those playing politics with the lives and property of innocent people,” Shinkafi stated.
Shinkafi praised recent military successes under President Bola Tinubu’s directive for the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to relocate to the North West.
He highlighted the elimination of notorious bandits, including Kachalla Halilu Sububu and Sani Black, as evidence of progress in the region.
“The synergy between the Ministry of Defence and security agencies is yielding positive results in the fight against banditry,” Shinkafi concluded.
